Dilithium Design BMS Controller
The Dilithium Design battery management system is a modular battery management system designed for use in electric vehicles. The BMS is realized in the form of two units. The BMS Controller (BMSC) consists of a BMS processor and a measurement board in a single housing. The BMS satellite (BMSS) contains the BMS measurement board. The BMS Controller is a stand-alone 24-cell BMS system to which up to three BMS satellites can be added, resulting in 48, 72, and 96-cell systems. Multiple systems can be used together to monitor larger herds.
The BMS measurement board has been optimized for monitoring cells in large lithium batteries and has been designed to minimize power consumption, especially during long-term storage when battery drain is unacceptable.
The BMS diagnostics checks the proper functioning of the measuring circuits, checks the wiring of the elements and monitors communication errors. During operation, all system elements are measured approximately 8 times per second with high consistency and accuracy.
While on the move, the BMS monitors the herd and collects herd and cell statistics. Statistics include cell high and low watermark data, which can be used to track cell performance under load, and standard deviation, which measures the balance of the pack.
The BMS supports several error conditions (or "alerts"). While driving, an alert is generated if the voltage of any cell drops below the configured Low Voltage Cutoff (LVC) threshold. During charging, the BMS generates an alert if any battery rises above the High Voltage Cutoff (HVC) threshold, which can be used to stop charging. The BMS supports a customizable Balance Voltage Cutoff (BVC) threshold that can be used to communicate with the charger to reduce the charge current.
The BMS supports intelligent cell balancing. A cell is considered to be balanced if its voltage is higher than the average cell voltage in the battery and if its voltage exceeds the minimum threshold that can be configured (set with BVMIN). Balancing takes place during driving and charging, not just at the end of the charge cycle.
